Hello, dear friends and family! Alyx here with an update about the GoFundMe.
First, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude (and the heartfelt gratitude of my entire family) for everyone’s generosity toward our fundraiser! Thanks to your donations, we were able to cover the entire $30,000 cost of the medical flight home for my Mom, which, as you know, could not be covered by insurance, and which we would not have been able to arrange without your support. Words cannot express how much you’ve helped us and how grateful we are for each and every one of you. Mom was marveling at the care and generosity you’ve all shown as we were going for a walk near my parents’ house earlier today, saying through grateful tears, “It’s just beyond me.” Thank you, thank you, thank you. It means so much to see how people from so many areas of our lives came together to support Mom.
Next, the update: at my parents’ request, we are going to stop taking donations for our GoFundMe today. The funds that were raised over and above the cost of the med flight are being used to cover additional therapy and rehabilitative costs for my Mom that aren’t covered by insurance. For additional costs of this nature, my parents have chosen to start pursuing other services and resources. That initial $30,000 for the med flight was really the thing that felt like an insurmountable hurdle, and now that we’ve gotten through that, we’re confident that between insurance and other services, they’ll be able to work things out for the rest of Mom’s care. If that changes, we certainly won’t hesitate to reach out to our incredible community again! For now, though, we’re wrapping up the fundraiser with full and grateful hearts.
