Waiting on Minnesota

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Good morning and thank you for your faithful interest in Joy’s healing and recovery, we so appreciate your compassionate concern.

While we are still in the ICU, our day yesterday felt more connected and purposeful. Her attending physician service stopped by as well as the infectious disease doctor following up on her post surgery antibiotic course. We watched our church’s Easter service online and made it most of the way through before she tired. Joy also sat up in the chair twice and did a significant walk down the hall with a walker and staff support.

With Joy having been wakeful the night before she was rather sleepy through much of day when she wasn’t in the chair or on her walk. We did one FaceTime call, and while brief, went well and again demonstrated Joy has recall that can be tapped when she makes the connection to a relationship. While Joy showed frequent frustration at not being able to find the correct words, expressive aphasia, she clearly had intent and is motivated to communicate. Names seem particularly hard for her, even her own. While she’ll respond, “yes,” to, “Is your name Joy,” she cannot find the word Joy to say it. Thankfully she showed strong recognition toward me all day but again is not able to say, Gary.

While continued prayers for physical, neurological, cognitive/aphasia, and emotional healing are needed oh so greatly, please give earnest attention to prayers for acceptance and authorization for inpatient rehabilitation in Minnesota. There are several moving pieces that need to come together so we covet your prayers and God’s favor to accomplish this long awaited path home.

Thank you again for your prayers, your compassionate support, and shared hope for Joy’s miraculous healing and recovery. We lean heavily on you, while trusting in God’s supernatural mercy and grace.
