The News We’ve Been Waiting For

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Good morning and thank you again for your faithful compassionate prayers for Joy and our family.

We are praising God this morning for the long awaited news. I just signed the paperwork authorizing Joy’s brain flap surgery, her cranioplasty, for Monday morning!! We are so thankful that Joy has progressed to the point of having this critical element of her recovery near completion. Words cannot express how much we appreciate your dedicated prayers, concern, and many expressions of support for Joy and our family.

Joy had a good day yesterday with therapy sessions and time in the chair, made extra special with the presence of her sister Grace and nephew CJ who arrived on Monday and return home this afternoon. Grace facilitated a video call with Joy’s 96 y/o mother Ruth and Ruth as clearly able to see Joy mouth the words, “I love you” to her mom. Our time of prayer and fellowship has been a blessing to all of us. At the same time we need your continued fervent prayers for the many wounds still needing healing, as well as, peace for Joy’s heart and mind.

After a particularly sweet exchange with Joy just before I left last evening, I got a call in the night that Joy had pulled out her trach tube and was very agitated and confused. By the time I arrived, they had done a repeat CT scan and everything looked ok. The CT was done just because of the confusion, she did not fall out of bed. She calmed down when I arrived, but the peace I had observed the just hours before seem replaced with anxious questions. We did our best to commutate through most of them and she seems more relaxed now, especially after we got the news for the go ahead of her cranioplasty. Her biggest question is, “When can we go home?” I just keep assuring her that we are now making a big step in that direction with her surgery scheduled. So thank you all for your continued prayers to that end.

Please continue your earnest prayers for Joy’s healing of body, mind, and spirit and know that we don’t have words to express our deep appreciation and gratitude for those faithful prayers.
