Joy’s vital signs have remained stable and she continues to breath on her own on the ventilator. Unfortunately, she has not been responding to commands and while that is understood to ebb and flow, her ability to respond factors significantly in the direction of her care. If she does not start to respond to commands including lifting her head in the next 5 to 10 days, they will perform a tracheostomy and put in a feeding tube. While that will be the best for care for her under the current conditions, we are praying for a miracle of wakefulness and responsiveness.
For the first time we learned today, that Joy not only had a subdural hematoma, but also an internal brain bleed which results in permanent brain damage in that area. Due to her lack of responsiveness, it is hard to tell what the overall impact will be, but we were told to prepare for a long road of recovery and rehabilitation.
We are so thankful for all of you in Joy’s support community and covet your prayers more than ever, especially for wakefulness and responsiveness.
