Gary reported that Joy had another great day of therapies. I’ll let him provide the update for today as he wishes.
I wanted to share a few sweet moments from my evening so far having our Slumber Party 🎉 We kicked 💃Gary out 😜 and let him go home to sleep in his bed for the first time in over 2 months!
I arrived later than I hoped and thought I may find Joy cozy in bed. Instead I found a very bright-eyed Joy waiting in her wheelchair for me reminding me of promise I made her. She said something to the extent of “I’m waiting for my hair cut 💇♀️!” We shuffled Gary out the door so the salon could begin.
First we needed to give the back and right side of her head a gentle wash. She was up for me combing out some of the matted hair/dried blood but requested we focus on the hair cut for now since she was tired. After my first snip, I held out my hand with the lock of her hair, and she exclaimed “you did it! Wonderful! That was so quick.” I swear she was glowing with excitement with the towel draped around her as I continued gently combed and trimmed her delicate hair to be a fairly uniform length.
I should quick pause here and say I am not a hair stylist! I have cut my husband’s hair for about the past 15 years and now both of our boys to save on money and time. My dear friend Kathy trained me on 1 style of men’s hair cut that I liked for Marc and that’s what I’ve been doing since 🤣 I also trimmed my sister’s long wavy hair last summer…once.
Good. Glad we got that clarified so you can approach her hair cut with grace that I’m an amateur :) who is rocking some scissors off Amazon that have worked really well!
No, I’m not taking new clients.
After our hair salon, she got freshed up for the night and styled in a cozy waffle weave long sleeve from home that she was delighted to wear. “I feel so good!” 😊
We finished with some home chapstick via cotton swabs (skipped face masks and mani/pedis since it was getting late 😜) and a little devotional art work I made.
Joy and I have had some tender conversations about our faith, her injury, recovery, aphasia, and confusion. This art piece was a special reminder for her and for all of us: we are never lost, the Lord is our Shepherd. He will walk from the rest of the flock to lovingly search for you and carry you upon his strong, capable shoulders. Tears of joy were shared by both of us 😘❤️🩹😍
All my love,
