Hello, dear ones - now that I am here in person, Dad and I will be sharing the work of writing updates.
Mom had a quiet night again. She seems to be tracking us more with her eyes and making eye contact with us this morning, and I’m also convinced she’s tried to crack a little smile a couple of times when she’s seen us. She moved her left toes when asked this morning, and she’s squeezed my hand reflexively a couple of times, though she has not done that on command yet.
When Dad and I arrived at the hospital this morning we learned that Mom had been taken for another CT scan a couple hours earlier to check the progress on the swelling in her brain. We just got the results back about an hour ago. There is no new bleeding (very good news!) and the existing bleed is very slowly moving in the right direction. The neuro team said that based on this morning’s results, it is unlikely that she’ll be ready for the cranioplasty (replacement of the skull flap) next week, but she might be ready the week after. However, they are going to do another CT early next week to check on progress, and that will determine next steps. They are planning to take the drain in her head out today, and will also try to move her to a chair so she can sit upright for a bit.
I am grateful to be able to be here, and while the changes are definitely painfully slow, it is encouraging to me how much of a change I see in Mom from when Marc and I were here last week.
We ask for your continued prayers and healing thoughts that the swelling continues to go down and we see positive change on the next CT scan. Thank you so much for all of your support.
