Our New Normal, For Now

Updated: Aug 22, 2024

Good evening and once again I thank you for your amazing support and dedication to faithfully following Joy on her journey.

We have had a good couple of days with some wonderful visits with friends, more walks outside, the daily routine of our therapy homework, and a sense of slow, very slow, but steady progress. Hence, it feels like a “new normal,” for now. It’s a normal of doing daily life that includes therapy, home life, contact with increasing number of friends, and again, slow, but steady progress. It’s a bit of an adjustment after miraculous gains that came so fast physically, which we are very thankful for, but I think the remaining gains are coming at a bit of a different pace. Physical gains still need to be made, but won’t probably be as dramatic, and the cognitive/language and sight gains, unfortunately, are coming, but feel painfully slow. Be assured, that we are so very thankful for God’s grace and mercy shown in all the progress experienced and we continue to trust in His healing power. But it’s still an adjustment to our new normal, for now.

Joy had a wonderful call with her mother this afternoon which was deeply appreciated by all and we look forward to time with family tomorrow enjoying a walk in the predicted 85 degree weather. The coming week beings 5 therapy sessions, more visits with friends, a follow up consult on Joy’s wrist surgery with an orthopedic surgeon, and on Friday a special event which we’ll share with you then.

We again covet your faithful prayers especially in this time of slower gains. Your willingness to continue with us on the journey through each “new normal” is a gift to us that brings us to tears each time we reflect on the faithful “cloud of witnesses” who are walking with us. So, once again, we thank you and please know how much we appreciate you.
