I’m Married to Super Woman

Hello again, faithful family, friends, and followers. We can’t tell you how much your continued interest in our story encourages us and motivates us. You are all appreciated more than words can say.

Joy is continuing to heal from her Moh’s surgery, the sutured incision is almost 2 inches long and is looking good, but again, keeping it bandaged and moist has thrown hair styling out the window, hence our baseball cap strategy. While we are very thankful for the surgery having gone so well and the cancer completely excised in one pass, I think the emotional and physical strain of the procedure, on top of our already full healing list, took its toll on Joy yesterday. It was a very challenging day emotionally for her with frequent tearful times and expressions of discouragement over the long journey we are on and how far she feels she has to go. Joy works so hard at her homework both physically and in speech/voice/reading, but when you’re about to turn 69 years old and practicing the alphabet everyday and short vowel sounds and still get stuck on simple words when reading, it can feel a bit overwhelming and frustrating. But I am so proud of Joy, because even with the down days, she does not give up.

This morning we were scheduled to watch our grandsons, but given the short time her incision has had to heal and that Joy did not want to strain picking up Revan or having him accidentally bump her head, we decided I would watch the boys on my own and Joy would stay home alone. I left and proceeded to have a good time with the boys for the next two and a half hours. When I arrived home, Joy was smiling and anxious give me a report of her time in my absence. It turns out that in the time I was with the boys, she cleared off our dining room table in preparation our having guests on Monday, which meant both taking things to our basement and upstairs, next she washed and dried all our bedding and remade the bed and then proceeded to iron a number up items that had been stacking up on the dryer. That was amazing in itself, but then after I fixed lunch and Joy had her nap, we took at 2.3 mile walk. So, as the title says, “I’m married to Super Woman.” All this clearly helped Joy feel more encouraged at the chance to feel some “normalcy” and boosted her emotional wellbeing considerably. I am so thankful, and again, so very proud or her, and very pleased at not having to do that ironing. 😊

As we approach the six month anniversary of the accident, we thank God for his grace and mercy shown and thank all of you so very much for your faithful prayers, compassion, and concern. I’ve read and reread a number of the CaringBridge posts to Joy and reflecting on where we started to where we are now, is again, a testament to the power of prayer, to God’s sufficiency in all circumstances, and in Joy’s remarkable grit and determination to not let the tragedy of the accident define or limit her. I’m married to Super Woman, but even Super Woman needs your continued faithful and earnest prayers because we do have a long way to go. Thank you for running this marathon with us.
