Hurry Up and Wait

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Good afternoon and we again want to thank you for your faithful and prayerful attention to Joy’s journey. I know you are all anxious to hear about Joy’s status and hoped for improvement and with all my heart I wish I had more to report.

Things have been slow to get started here but we are doing our best to advocate for Joy and her many needs. Therapy did begin this afternoon and we have now clarified what to expect from her therapy schedule. I’ll post a picture of her “standing” with the therapists. Her right side remains completely flaccid, so while we are encouraged to see therapy begin, please continue to pray sensation and movement will return to her right side.

When resting today Joy has seemed more comfortable and I’ve had more smiles than yesterday. We had good respiratory news that despite her bacteremia and pneumonia, her oxygen saturation levels are 96% on just room air which is very encouraging as a first step moving toward the eventual removal of her tracheostomy.

I was able to talk to a member of the neurosurgeon team today and they said they were planning another CT scan early next week. Please pray hard that the scan will show the brain’s swelling has subsided to where they can perform her cranioplasty.

I always feel like I’m repeating myself when I say “once again” but once again, we cannot begin to thank you all for your unwavering dedication and support. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive “great cloud of witnesses.”
