Healing That Takes a Miracle

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Good morning and thank you all for your faithful support and compassionate attention to Joy’s healing journey. We are still assessing Joy’s wakefulness and responsiveness this morning and will update on that a bit later, but I wanted to speak to a couple of issues based on questions I have received directly from some of you.

First, in Alyx’s post they referenced our inability to seek damages in our case. I want to assure everyone, that I retained an attorney shortly after the accident and they have been very helpful even in just navigating the insurance side of things given this involves auto and health insurances. The attorney’s office conducted a thorough investigation, but because FL law does not require drivers to have bodily injury liability insurance, and the driver did not, his auto insurance company has no liability responsibility. So the remaining recourse is to seek damages from the driver and/or their family/estate. However, the driver and his family of origin have very limited assets and no other liability coverage, so it is not a viable option to seek damages from them directly.

Second, and more seriously, I wanted to speak specifically to the challenges Joy is facing in her healing and recovery. Joy has many wounds and most of them will heal with time and the proper medical care. We so welcome your faithful prayers for this healing to be quick and uneventful.

However, two of her wounds, the left temporal IPH intraparenchymal hemorrhage and the left side SAH subarachnoid hemorrhage have caused permanent brain damage which will not resolve or heal without a miraculous intervention. Joy has not been lucid enough or reactive enough to assess the extent of this permanent brain damage, but the doctors are clear that based the picture of the original bleeds still resolving on her CT scans, the evidence of irreversible damage in that section of the brain is real. That is the medical and factual reality of the moment. That said, one of the main reasons we are reaching out to you through CaringBridge is to seek your unified prayers for the miraculous healing of Joy’s brain and body, including regeneration of the damaged brain tissue that traditional medicine says is not possible.

So once again we come seeking your continued fervent and faithful thoughts and prayers for Joy’s miraculous healing. We can’t thank you thank you enough for your faithful support of Joy and our family. You are all bearing us up and we feel it.
