Gaining Strength, Waiting for Minnesota

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Good morning and thank you again for your faithful compassionate prayers for Joy and our family. Joy appeared to have a more restful night with just one instance of crying out in her sleep. While there are orders for her to be discharged from the ICU, there hasn’t been an open bed for her, so we’re still in the ICU this morning. The staff have all been wonderful here and continue to encourage Joy in her healing journey.

Our daughter-in-law Caitlyn will be posting more on our efforts to secure an inpatient rehab facility in Minneapolis, but please continue to pray that this process can proceed without delay and we can schedule our return to Minnesota very soon.

Yesterday saw Joy exceeding her previous day’s walk by a mile, well maybe not a mile, but by over a hundred feet at least. She also, while supported by the therapists, stood at the sink and brushed her teeth. Then with Joy in a wheelchair, we went outside for some fresh air and sunshine.

We should move off the ICU today and Joy will continue PT and OT. We pray, and ask for your prayers, that these remaining days here may allow Joy to increase her strength and endurance in preparation for the more intense therapy of inpatient rehab.

So as you have, please continue to pray for Joy’s physical healing including miraculous healing of damaged brain tissue and neuro pathways, miraculous healing of her damaged right ear, and possibly damaged right eye. Also, pray for Joy’s emotional healing and comfort along within prayers for healing of her cognitive processes and aphasia.

The list is long, but we know you are faithful in continuing to hold up Joy and our family in your earnest prayers. We thank you and wish you a very blessed Easter tomorrow.
