From ICU to PCU

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Good morning faithful friends and family. Once again, we cannot thank you enough for your overwhelming support through prayers, kind words, helpful resource suggestions, and now gracious gifts through Joy’s GoFundMe established by Alyx and Marc.

Last evening we got word that we were moving from the ICU to the PCU which is a step down unit and at 9:30 moved to room 3113. The room and surroundings in the PCU are quieter with fewer alarms and monitor beeps going off. After some initial confusion around activities of the move, Joy settled in and seemed to rest more comfortably.

Actions are also in the works to take next steps which are to transition Joy to the Select Specialty Hospital, a Critical Care Recovery Hospital or Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTAC). Select Specialty is physically connected to Ascension Health where we are currently located and Joy’s neurology team would continue to follow her care there. Select also has a facility in Minneapolis, so our ultimate goal would be to have Joy become stable enough to be transitioned from FL to MN. Of course that requires the brain flap cranioplasty be accomplished and probably removal of the tracheostomy. Please join us in praying for this progress.

In another development, we have been blessed by a very gracious couple here in Panama City who has offered me accommodations and I will be transitioning from the hotel to their home on Sunday after Alyx returns home Saturday evening.

So our most urgent and coveted requests are again prayers for miraculous healing of Joy’s brain injuries, return of feeling/sensation/movement to her right side, and overall healing of her many physical and cognitive wounds.

Thank you again for your gracious compassion shown to us, your prayers are felt each moment.
