Countdown Continues

Updated: Aug 22, 2024

Good evening faithful family, friends, and followers. Today was a busy therapy day for Joy in PT, OT, and Speech. It’s clear everyone has their eyes on Joy’s discharge Thursday and each therapist is being very kind and conscious of making the most of the time. Her therapists are also very complementary of Joy’s amazing progress and of their confidence in her continued success as we transition to home and outpatient. We had our final care conference today, reviewing the discharge plan, upcoming doctor and therapy appointments, and resources available for us in this new phase.

Joy is doing her best to stay upbeat even when her eyesight and language challenges are weighing on her. I wish I could post recordings to CaringBridge to share the compassionate and caring words she has for the therapy, nursing, and support staff. She has been crystal clear in communicating her appreciation and interest in how the staff is doing. If our nurse is working a double she tracks with asking how they are doing through the long shift and her hopes for their rest after. She complements and praises each therapist and what she specifically appreciates about their approach, she compliments again the nurse who’s shooting the heparin into her belly, the aid who takes her vitals, the phlebotomist who draws her blood, and the housekeeper who empties the trash. I think she is the most caring patient the staff has ever seen and I know she has brought some to near tears with her kindness. What a precious wife I am blessed with.

You have all seen us this far, please continue to lean into the prayers for Joy’s healing in all facets with special emphasis on her sight, language, and our home going. We cannot thank you enough, but know you are valued and needed so by Joy and our entire family.
