Alyx is Here and Joy Seems More Wakeful

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Alyx arrived safely this afternoon and I am so thrilled to have them with us, it is such a blessing and encouragement. When Alyx got to the room it allowed me time to go to the ER and have my stitches removed, my bruises and abrasions are all improving. Also with Alyx here, I feel more comfortable taking time tomorrow (Fri) to get back to an orthopedic group I saw last week for my right hip and knees. While improving, it’s slow and would value a follow up.

Joy had a peaceful day and as I noted earlier, definitely appears more comfortable. While she is still not responding to commands, she seems more wakeful, opening her eyes for longer periods, looking toward the sound of our voices, and just this afternoon, seems to hold our gaze and focus on us. I’m convinced the corner of her mouth tried to smile when she saw Alyx. She still reacts to touch on her left hand and foot, but not the right.

Please continue to pray earnestly for a reduction in her intracranial pressure which would allow them to do her cranioplasty, ie, reinserting her brain flap. Once that is accomplished, transport can be considered, but not until. When I asked the surgeon to speculate on timing he said it could be 3 days, it could be 3 weeks. Let’s all agree to pray together for the 3 days option!

Thank you all for your incredible faithfulness in your interest and compassion shown to Joy. I look forward to the day when she can see firsthand what an incredibly caring support network she has!! Thank you all so much!
