A Celebration of 97 Years and Our Journey Continues

Hello faithful family, friends, and followers and welcome to November. My update will be brief this week, but please head over to “Joy’s Corner” to read her latest post which she has been working on diligently over the past week. It is truly a labor of love for her.

We had the pleasure this past Saturday to travel to Joy’s brother’s home in Iowa to celebrate Joy’s mother’s 97th birthday. In addition to recovering from Covid, Ruth has had several other health challenges and so the day was quite taxing and tiring for her, but all were blessed and thankful for the time we had together. We chose to return coming north along the Mississippi River and while many of the leaves had already fallen, there was still enough color to awe us at the beauty of creation along one of our favorite drives.

This past Sunday we crossed the 8 month mark since the accident. Joy has continued to be a trooper in her physical and cognitive homework exercises. I marvel daily at her determination and good natured approach to the many challenges that still face her. We’ve had to adjust the routine of our walks made more challenging as winter sets in. Here in Minneapolis we got a few of inches of snow yesterday, not the 28.4 inches we had on Halloween 1991, but still, winter has arrived.

This coming week we have the follow up visit with Joy’s orthopedic surgeon as well as start a few weeks where we are back to all three therapies, PT, OT, and Speech. Each will wind down starting with Speech, then PT, and then OT so that by the week before Christmas we will have finished all currently ordered therapy. What a journey it has been and continues to be. We are so grateful and have been so blessed by the wonderful therapy staff that have cared for Joy.

Our prayer requests remain the same - for restoration of Joy’s vision to the right upper quadrant and for healing of her aphasia, especially gains in cognition and comprehension. As we have shared previously, we continue to hold you up in our prayers and give thanks for all the compassion, care, and support you have shown us.
