A Better Day

Updated: Aug 21, 2024

Good morning and once again I thank you for your amazing support and dedication to faithfully following Joy in her journey. Thank you also for your fervent prayers not only for Joy’s physical, neurological, and cognitive needs but also her emotional well-being. Yesterday saw several answers to your prayers and while by evening, she again seemed more somber, hopefully that will lightened after a good night of sleep.

As the morning progressed yesterday, Joy’s smiles came more frequently and although she continued to refuse music, reading or listening to voice recordings, she seemed more at peace. Then in what felt like the clearest answer to your urgent prayers, I asked her if she wanted me to turn on the TV, up to this point she has always responded with a simple no and shake of her head. But this time, she was shaking her head, but mouthing more words than just no. I asked her to repeat as I did my best to lip read and then I asked her, are you saying, “no, we’ll watch when we get home?” And she shook her head yes!! I can assure you there were plenty of tears. A little later, I FaceTimed Marc and Caitlyn and then Alyx and Ethan and on both calls when they said she was looking good, she spontaneously gave a big thumbs up with her left hand for them to see. And, during routine oral care done by the nurse, they offered to let her do it herself and she gave it a great attempt, see photo. While I’m sure we are in for many roller coaster days, I’m oh so thankful to have had the encouraging moments we did yesterday. So thank you faithful friends and family.

And in more encouraging news, yesterday I was able to leave my hotel and relocate to the home of a very gracious couple who literally opened their doors and hearts to me and Joy. They are a great encouragement to me not only in their hospitality, but also through their spiritual and emotional support as well.

Then this afternoon, Joy’s sister Grace and our nephew CJ are flying in and staying until Wednesday. Their desire to minister to Joy and our family through in-person prayer and spiritual and emotional support is deeply appreciated.

Finally, it was confirmed yesterday that Joy has a CT scan scheduled for Tuesday morning. Please pray in earnest that the results will show Joy is ready for her cranioplasty.

Thank you once again for joining this community of spiritual and emotional support for Joy and our family. We are oh so grateful.
